Although you would certainly not realize it from the rain we’ve seen these past few weeks, our state is in the middle of dry season. From November to April, our region receives only a 1/4 of its average annual rain, with January being the driest month of all. Because of low rainfall in the winter months, it’s important to have an irrigation system in place. A well-functioning irrigation system is the best way to protect your landscaping investment during drier weather.

Irrigation is vital to the health and appearance of your landscape. When rainfall is at its lowest, an irrigation system is the primary water source to your property’s beautiful landscaping. To ensure that landscaping is well maintained, it’s imperative to evaluate the efficiency of your property’s irrigation system. If your system isn’t working uniformly, parts of your landscaping could receive too much or too little coverage, causing irreversible damage.

Many factors can disturb the effectiveness of your property’s system, including:

  • Blocked, crooked and broken heads due to the shifting of roots and rocks
  • Broken rain sensors
  • Broken pipes
  • Poor water pressure

When the weather is cooler and rain more infrequent, irrigation issues become noticeable and problematic more quickly. The best way to prevent this is through proper installation and maintenance. The  SFM Landscaping team of experienced professionals knows how to prepare for dry months ahead, and can make any adjustments needed to ensure your property’s landscape stays lush until the spring rains return.
