Laminate flooring has become very popular with businesses, and for good reason. They offer a low cost, low maintenance solution. But low maintenance doesn’t mean no maintenance. As with everything else, the secret to keeping them looking like new is upkeep.

Here’s how to keep your laminate floors looking glossy and streak-free:

Here's how to keep your laminate floors looking glossy and streak-free:

Don’t sweep them – It’s best not to sweep laminate floors the old fashion way. With a traditional broom, dirt and dust particles can become trapped between the grooves, or not picked up at all. Any dirt left behind will get spread around on the floor when mixed with the wet mop. That will, in turn, leave streaks, and can even scratch the surface of the floor. Instead, try a dry-dust style tool or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.

Don’t wet mop them – To clean, avoid wet mopping. Too much water can actually seep in between the laminate boards, cause swelling and damage the floors. A little water goes a long way, and the same goes for cleaning solutions. You may think that a lot of soap will get your floors extra clean, but in reality it leaves residue behind that dulls the finish.

Don’t use wax – If your floors are a bit dull and need to make them shine, don’t use wax. That will damage the laminate’s finish. If you really want them to shine, a cloth diaper or a microfiber cloth are the best options.

Of course it you would prefer to outsource the job, give us a call. The skilled professionals at SFM will leave your laminates looking as good as the day they were installed.
