Disasters can happen at any time, without warning. That’s why it’s so important to have an Emergency Action Plan in place for your business. EAPs are required by law in some cases and are a good idea for any company.

But what exactly is an Emergency Action Plan? It’s a written document that outlines the actions employees need to take in the event of an emergency. The plan should be specific to your business and consider the type of emergency. Your EAP should include:

  • evacuation routes
  • designated meeting places
  • emergency contact information
  • instructions for shutting down equipment
  • first aid procedures

An EAP can help minimize damage, keep employees safe, and help protect your company from legal action. In a workplace emergency, having an EAP in place shows the company has taken steps to prevent accidents and protect employees, potentially reducing the amount of damages awarded in a lawsuit.

Once you’ve created your Emergency Action Plan, make sure all employees are familiar with it and know what to do in the event of an emergency. And, make sure your security team is familiar with your EAP and understands their role in the event of an emergency. If you don’t have a security team, SFM Security can help you develop and implement your EAP.
