When travelers pull off I-75 at Mile Marker 35, they’re met with something far beyond the typical rest stop. Rising above the wetlands is a four-story observation tower overlooking the Florida Everglades — and surrounding it, a landscape brought to life by SFM Services.
Working in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), SFM took the project’s environmental vision and transformed it into reality — blending infrastructure, education, and nature in one landmark public space.
A Gateway to the Everglades
The Alligator Alley Environmental Education Center and Rest Area, now open to the public, reimagines what a rest area can be. It’s a place where travelers can learn about the Everglades ecosystem, stretch their legs, and experience Florida’s natural landscape up close.
Key features include:
- A four-story observation tower offering panoramic views of the wetlands
- A boardwalk nature trail and wetland exhibit showcasing native aquatic plants
- An arboretum with educational kiosks and a life-size alligator sculpture
- Family-friendly amenities including a playground, dog park, and walking trails
SFM’s landscape installation played a central role in creating a space that feels both wild and welcoming. The design emulates the Everglades’ natural “sheet flow,” using native vegetation and sustainable materials to reflect the environment’s rhythm. It’s a living classroom that celebrates Florida’s unique ecology — and a showcase of how expert landscape management supports long-term environmental goals.
From Vision to Reality
Bringing this project to life required more than planting trees and laying sod. SFM’s team coordinated complex site work, integrated diverse planting zones, and ensured each area — from the arboretum to the wetland exhibit — would thrive under Florida’s climate conditions.
As a family-owned company with over 20 years of experience in large-scale landscape and maintenance projects, SFM approached the work with the same dedication it brings to every municipal partnership: precision, reliability, and respect for the environment.
Public Spaces That Inspire
The Alligator Alley Center is part of a broader mission shared by many Florida municipalities — to make public spaces safe, beautiful, and educational. That’s where SFM’s municipal expertise comes in.
Across South Florida, cities like Coral Gables, Doral, Miami, Margate, and Miami Beach depend on SFM to maintain roads, parks, and facilities that residents are proud to call their own. With MOT-certified crews, sustainable practices, and a commitment to safety, SFM ensures public landscapes remain vibrant year-round.
The same care and craftsmanship seen in the Everglades project are what make SFM a trusted partner for cities across the region.
