Weather experts recently released an outlook for this hurricane season, which started on June 1st.  They’re projecting a total of 14 named storms, and seven hurricanes, three of which will turn into major hurricanes. While this is only a forecast, it’s important to be prepared. Because if there’s one thing South Floridians know it’s that ‘it only takes one.’

So, what can you do to prepare your property for whipping winds, torrential downpours, and floods? Here’s what we recommend:

  • Prune trees: Dead, damaged, diseased limbs, and those that are too close to your property or power lines need to be trimmed. It’s also a good idea to selectively remove interior branches to allow wind to easily pass through.
  • Stake Trees: Young trees still staked are vulnerable to being uprooted with hurricane force winds. Their stakes need to be driven deep into the ground to prevent them from blowing away.
  • Check Drainage: Storm drains around your property need to be cleared of debris. Just one clogged area drain grating can cause flooding.

Hurricanes are considered the most dangerous storms on Earth. Working with a professional landscaping company, like SFM Landscape, to prepare your building’s landscaping for a hurricane is the most effective way to mitigate potential damage. In addition to keeping your landscaping groomed and looking beautiful year-round, we also have the knowledge and manpower required to prepare for and clean up after, dangerous weather.
