Living in Florida certainly has its benefits. While the risk of hurricanes certainly isn’t one of them, Floridians do a great job of preparing for these massive storms. Without a doubt, protecting your employees and inventorying your assets should be a top priority, but preparing your location is also important.
So, what can you do to prepare your property from whipping winds, torrential downpours, and major flooding? Here’s what we recommend:
Prune trees:
Dead, damaged, diseased limbs, and those that are too close to your property or power lines need to be trimmed. It’s also a good idea to selectively remove interior branches to allow wind to easily pass through.
Stake Trees:
Young trees still staked are vulnerable to being uprooted with hurricane force winds. Their stakes need to be driven deep into the ground to prevent them from blowing away.
Check Drainage:
Storm drains around your property need to be cleared of debris. Just one clogged area drain grating can cause flooding.
One thing South Florida residents know is that there’s no way to avoid hurricane season. The best thing to do is be prepared. Let the SFM Landscape team take on the responsibility of maintaining your building’s landscaping year-round so it’s always storm-ready.
