The city of Miami is working on a project to beautify the city with a canopy increase of 30%. The effort is called Million Trees Miami.  Their mission is “growing a healthy urban forest that provides a minimum of 30% tree canopy coverage and the maximum social, economic, and environmental benefits to the region.”

We think the effort will do great things for our community. Although we are not directly related to the effort, we are proud to contribute to the canopy coverage in South Florida. In the last 12 months alone, SFM has planted 509 new trees in Tampa, Zoo Miami, FIU, Coral Gables, and Interstate I-75. We shouldn’t stop there. With the tropical temperatures we face in Florida and the storms that take our trees over time, it’s important to make this is a continued effort.

You can do your part too.  Ensure your land space is plush and green. We often share tips in this newsletter for the best trees to plant in the region and when to plant for best chances of survival in our tropical climate. The ticker for Million Trees Miami is currently a bit over 150K; that’s not even 20% of the goal. We can’t wait to see the transformation complete!
