As South Florida-area businesses know all-too-well, hurricane season peaks between August and October, with the second week in September being the highest probable time for a major event.

This is a friendly reminder to review your plans before a storm hits:

  • Review the property insurance policy. Back up with photographs or videos of the business premises, taken from all angles.
  • Remind staff of all hurricane-related policies and procedures, and inform essential employees of their roles and responsibilities.
  • Stock all emergency supplies including generators, sandbags, hand tools, and other essentials for a prolonged power outage and flooding.
  • Revisit plans for protecting computer files to make certain critical data is secured through a backup system. Do the same for all electronic or online systems such as payroll. Do you have and will you need manual systems for prolonged outages?
