Lush greenery certainly lends an aura of attractiveness to a commercial property. But, it’s important to be selective when choosing plants. The wrong plant can wreak havoc on your landscaping.
Here are a few that you should always try to avoid:
Bamboo: While bamboo is an excellent choice for renewable building resources, it’s not ideal for contained landscaping. Because of its rapid growth characteristic, your property will be overrun with a forest of bamboo that could take years to eradicate.
Euphorbia: Euphorbia is a family of plants that comprises many different species. While it’s very attractive to look at, it contains a poisonous milky sap that is known to cause skin irritation.
Ornamental grasses: Also very beautiful in landscaping, some tall ornamental grasses sprout colorful plumes. But they can also become invasive, crowding out native and cultivated plants.
Liriope spicate: Better known as monkey grass, this low-maintenance plant is often used to edge walkways and flower beds. But, it’s so aggressive, it quickly grows out of control.
Privet: Privet is a popular choice because it creates a nice-looking privacy hedge. It can grow very tall, up to 30 feet! It also tends to trap small animals and attract pests.
